- country boy
- This is quite different from ‘countryman’, as in ‘my fellow countryman. It means a (young) man who comes from a rural background and is perhaps not used to city ways. The Middle Man, by David Chandler has: ‘“Country boy,” she murmured, like an accusal.’ The speaker has just been commenting on what she considers to be the man’s unsophisticated behaviour.
